Many people know that exercise provides numerous health benefits to the people that exercise on a regular basis, but many do not know that exercise can help them sleep better. Regular exercise has been proven to help people fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer in many studies by researchers across the nation. Daily exercise can also correct periods of sleeplessness linked to increased stress or anxiety in the person’s life.

Experts recommend people do light to moderate exercise lasting for at least 30 minutes three or four times a week to receive the benefits of the exercise linked to sleeping better. It is important that the exercise is done in the morning or the early afternoon so that the adrenaline rush from the exercise does not interfere with the person falling asleep in the evening. Aerobic exercises are generally the best for many people because the movements are low impact and the pace of the exercise can be changed to be comfortable to the person doing the exercises.

Exercise can also increase the amount of time that the person spends in the deepest stages of sleep, also known as stage four sleep. Spending more time in deep sleep helps the person wake up feeling refreshed and well rested each morning.

Increased amounts of deep sleep during the night also can help the body feel healthier as the body is able to repair itself from the damage that occurs to it during the day. Just as exercise makes the body feel stronger with continued use, deep sleep makes the body feel more comfortable and flexible when the person awakes.

Getting the right amount of exercise is important to the health of people of all ages, from small children to seniors. In addition to strengthening the muscles and toning the body, regular exercise can reduce risk of many health conditions, some of which can cause insomnia and other sleep disorders. People that exercise regularly are hospitalized less often and require less medical attention than people that do not exercise each week.

There are many other benefits of regular exercise as well. Regular exercise can increase brain function, pump more oxygen through the body in the blood, and can increase the person’s reaction time. Regular exercise also strengthens the heart and lungs of the person reducing the risk of many serious health conditions, such as heart disease and pulmonary edema.

You don’t need to join a gym to get the exercise you need to help you sleep. As I said earlier a brisk walk in the evening for 30 minutes is enough to help you sleep and shouldn’t put a strain on your body. If you’re somewhat physicall fit I’ve found martial arts to be a great way of getting proper exercise, clearing my mind and allowing me to sleep like a baby most nights - Jiujitsu is a wonderful sleep tonic believe me. Failing that gentle swimming and light aerobics are also excellent ways of getting all over body exercise and putting your body in the mood for some well earned sleep!

One way to make exercise fun is by choosing the exercise that you love. If you love something, you would not mind to do it over, and over again. If you like dancing, then go for it. Bicycling, swimming and jogging are all great and fun cardio exercises too. You can even do all the exercises on alternate days.

Finding a few exercise partners who have the same goals like you is another way to make exercise fun. Make sure they are as committed as you are. It is important that you and your partners always motivate and support each other. This is essential in order to keep you going, especially during your down days.

Next, don’t forget to bring your ipod when you go for exercise. Listening to your favorite music during exercise will make your exercise enjoyable. But I just don’t like the idea of watching television during exercise. I will normally end up staying at the gym for hours.

Another way to make exercise fun is to limit your exercise time to 15-30 minutes a day. Interval training is my favorite. Moreover, by limiting your time you would not get bored fast and hungry for more exercise later.

Changing your exercise location is another way. If all this while you have been doing cardio at the gym, maybe you want to start jogging at the park. Sometimes you need new environment and new atmosphere to prevent you from getting bored. This method really works for me.

Exercise does not have to be a torturing activity. You exercise will be more effective if you feel happy doing them. I hope these 5 ways to make exercise fun will be useful to you.

Abdominal exercises are one of the hottest, and yet, most controversial topics in the fitness and exercise industry. Hundreds of ab gadgets, gimmicks, and exercise machines have flooded the market for people looking for sexier and flatter abdominals… that sexy six-pack abs appearance that everyone seeks.

The problem is that most of the abdominal exercises that are recommended all over the internet, and in magazines, etc, are not necessarily the best method to get that six-pack abs appearance. First and foremost, the most important aspect for great looking six pack abdominals is losing the extra belly fat that is covering them up. To be honest, most people already have decent abdominals underneath, yet the six-pack abs are simply covered up by all of that extra flabby stomach fat.

Instead of focusing so much on abdominal exercises to make your stomach flatter and more like a six-pack, you will lose much more body fat by focusing the majority of your training time with special combinations of high intensity full-body, multi-joint exercises. The best exercises for losing that abdominal fat are the exercises that work the largest portions of the body at once.

Exercises that work the large muscle groups of the legs, upper and lower back, and chest give you the biggest metabolic bang for your buck in terms of abdominal fat loss. Combining these types of big multi-joint exercises in high intensity super-set, tri-set, or circuit fashion gives you the biggest fat-burning and metabolism boosting response from your workouts.

And that is one of the best kept secrets for flat sexy abdominals that are actually visible as a six-pack!

Now when it comes to abdominal-specific exercises, another mistake most people make is mindlessly pumping away with hundreds of crunches and other meaningless abs exercises that barely give your abdominals much resistance to work against. If you want to actually develop your abdominals to the best extent possible, don’t waste your time with exercises that you can do more than 20 or 25 reps… that means you are definitely not doing an exercise that provides enough resistance to the abs. Exercises that give you enough resistance to get you down into the 6-15 rep range per set works great for the abs.

Generally, higher resistance abdominal exercises that provide a much larger stimulus to the abs come in the form of exercises that involve raising/curling the legs and pelvis either upward or inward closer to the trunk. A couple great examples of these higher resistance abdominal exercises are hanging leg raises or knee raises using a “pelvic curl up”, or an exercise like lying hip thrusts. Many times, the same people that can do 50 or 100 crunches, can’t even complete more than 2 or 3 properly executed hanging leg raises.

If you really want tighter flatter abdominals that look like a six-pack, remember that losing that extra belly fat is the MOST important factor. Also, when it comes to abdominal-specific exercises, always remember higher resistance exercises that involve curling/raising the legs and pelvis upward or inward are what develops the abs to the best extent possible.

Bodyweight exercise is the best place to begin when starting a physical fitness training program, should be added to programs that otherwise neglect bodyweight exercise and should be diversified with resistance training for programs that use bodyweight exercise exclusively.

Some people love bodyweight exercise and some people hate it… similarly, some people think bodyweight exercise is valuable to a physical fitness training program, and others don’t.

I believe that bodyweight exercise is not only the best method to start a physical fitness training program… but I believe that it should remain an active part of any well balance physical training program.

Let’s look at bodyweight exercise from three different perspectives… from the beginner just getting started, from the experienced weight lifter that neglects bodyweight exercise and from the bodyweight exercise only crowd.

1. Bodyweight Exercise For Beginners

Most commercial gyms will prescribe an exercise regimen of strength training, usually in the form of machines, and cardiorespiratory endurance training, normally in the form of stationary “cardio” equipment.

This is a generalization of course… but these two types of training are the predominant forms of physical training in most gyms, regardless of how they are put together.

Notice… bodyweight exercise is missing.

Answer me this… should a beginner with no prior experience with physical training start by jumping right into resistance training with free weights or machines, or would they be better served by learning more about the movement of their bodies by using bodyweight exercise?

Physical training allows you to improve the body by supplying increased stimulus that is not normally found in your daily lifestyle.

For the beginner, bodyweight exercise is the logical place to start… because most beginners are actually going from a state of complete inactivity to a state of activity.

The beginner has not even scraped the surface of what their body can perform without resistance… and should therefore strive to make improvements using bodyweight exercise first.

Once the beginner has made sufficient gains and reached an improved state with bodyweight exercise… then they can add resistance.

2. Bodyweight Exercise For The Experienced Weight Lifter

Many people with a great deal of experience and expertise in physical training completely neglect bodyweight exercise… or believe it to be ineffective.

They notoriously use all types of resistance training methods… while neglecting bodyweight exercise all together.

I propose that the goal of any physical fitness training program is to improve performance that can be used to meet the challenges of sport, work and life with excellence.

Many of those challenges will be met by the effective control and movement of your own body… and not the movement of other objects through space.

And what is the best way to train the improvement of body movement and control of your own body… that’s right, bodyweight exercise.

Here is an example…

Many people that have trouble doing a push up will focus on the bench press with hopes of improving their push up numbers… with limited results.

If you want to be able to do more push ups… do more push ups!

The point is this, the improvements you will see from physical training are specific… so if you want to see improvements in a bodyweight movement, use bodyweight exercise to do so.

3. Bodyweight Exercise For The Bodyweight Only Crowd

As you can already tell, I am a strong advocate of bodyweight exercise… but not exclusively.

There are various physical fitness training programs that use bodyweight exercise almost exclusively… like Yoga or Pilates.

While I have no problem with these forms of training… I believe they can take you only so far on the road to physical fitness excellence.

We must remember… Yoga exercises are performed in conjunction with meditation and Pilates was originally developed as a form of rehabilitation for war veterans.

The point is this… bodyweight exercise only programs will only take you so far, and then some form of resistance training must be applied to see further improvement.

In Conclusion…

Bodyweight exercise is an important part of any well balanced physical fitness training program.

If you are just getting started… bodyweight exercise is the perfect place to start.

If you have notoriously neglected bodyweight exercise in your training… add it to improve the physical abilities you have been neglecting.

If you only use bodyweight exercise… diversify your fitness training program by adding some form of resistance training.

In this way, each group can optimize the use of bodyweight exercise.

Do not underestimate the importance of bodyweight exercise… Use it effectively and in the right proportion to meet your goals, needs, abilities and limitations and meet the challenges of sport, work and life with excellence.

Ok, so you just got done reading the latest monthly issue of your favorite fitness and health magazine about the newest and latest exercise program and you are more confused than ever on what is the best way to Get in Shape, Build Muscle and Burn Fat for Life.

What really is the best and most efficient form of exercise for Maximum Results?

* More weight or less weight?

* More reps or fewer reps?

* Higher intensity or lower intensity?

* More cardio than resistance training?

* More resistance training than cardio?

* Machines or free weights?

* Train every day or once a week?

How do I go from Flab to Fab in Only 15 Minutes a Day?

What is really the most effective, efficient and RESULTS driven form of personal fitness training that is going to give YOU the biggest and best return on your invested fitness time?

The Personal Fitness Training landscape has become so overwhelming and so confusing that most people end up doing the same fitness routine over and over again because they just don’t know what else to do to find the best fitness solution.

So how can you Burn Fat, Build Muscle and Lose Weight to get the Perfect Fitness Body for Life in the least amount of time?

Are you that busy Executive with little time between your corporate meetings and challenged with long workdays?

Are you a stay at home mom trying to keep up with managing your hectic daily schedule while taking care of your children and your spouse with very little time to exercise?

Are you getting diminishing returns on your current fitness training program?

Then Learn How to Go from Flab to Fab in Only 15 minutes a Day…

In working with my existing personal fitness clients at www.MyHomePersonalTrainer.com , I have learned some of the most common but correctable mistakes a lot of men and women make in trying to support their long term fitness and health goals.

1. Too much machine work A lot of women and men train using too often just their preferred machines, which limits their range of motion and does not work their muscles in an efficient and effective manner. Ultimately this can limit the engagement of small stabilizer muscles that give you maximum benefit throughout your fitness training program.

2. Not lifting enough weight A lot of women do not lift enough weights to engage their muscles for long-term muscle growth.

3. Working only half of your body A lot of men focus too much on just their upper body and end up mainly training their chest and arms, thus making their body parts look very unbalanced and disproportionate to each other.

4. Too many reps A lot of women do too many reps per set, once again not allowing their muscles the opportunity to grow and develop so that they can change their muscle/fat body composition.

5. Overtraining The benefits of resistance training, unlike cardiovascular work, come after the training is over. Sometimes people think more is better and in resistance training that is not always the case.

6. Not fueling their bodies for training Both before and after training. Your body is an engine that must be fed with high octane, good quality fuel to maximize your fitness results. Starving yourself before or after a fitness training workout limits your capacity to perform at peak levels

7. Training the same way Any fitness training program that is more than 4-6 weeks will not only get stale for you, but will provide you diminishing long term fitness results.

8. Cardio before weights Wearing yourself down prior to your resistance training workout with cardio can only reduce your opportunity to get the best possible training session

9. Steady as she goes A big mistake is keeping your fitness training pace always in moderate mode. Incorporating High Intensity Training is the way to keep it fresh, fast, and effective.

10. Cardio, cardio and more cardio Burning fat is a great thing, but burning muscle is a bad thing. Cardio is a good fat burner, but also can burn muscle if you over indulge.

The secret in developing the Perfect Personal Fitness Training Program begins with the following Flab to Fab Personal Fitness Training Tips.

1. Focus on the Four Major Muscles Groups Stay away from Isolation Exercises. Burn fat and build muscle when working those Major Large Muscle Groups more often.

1. Legs Squat

2. Chest Chest Press

3. Back Bent Over Rows

4. Shoulders Overhead Press

Perform Compound Exercises (Multi Joint movements) Working multi-joints at the same time provides maximum benefit to your muscles,

1. Legs Lunge or Squat (Hip and Knee Joint)

2. Chest Chest Press (Shoulder and Elbow Joint)

3. Back Bent Over Row (Shoulder and Elbow Joint)

4. Shoulders Overhead Press (Shoulder and Elbow Joint)

Perform Supersets No Rest Between 2 Exercises. Working more than one muscle with no break provides and efficient and effective workout.

1. Work opposing Muscle Groups

1. Chest then Back

2. Work alternating between Upper and Lower Body

1. Chest then Legs

Perform Circuit Training No Rest through your entire workout. Circuit Set Training turns your Fitness Training into High Intensity Resistance Training.

1. Train for maximum gain by performing all your exercises with no break

5. Build your Fitness Training with Value and Flexibility in Mind A Great Fitness Value with Outstanding Fitness Benefits.

1. Train with a quality Stability ball.

2. Train with Dumbbells while at home or at the gym.

3. Train with Exercise Bands while traveling on the road for work or vacation.

It is estimated that 80% of home exercise equipment is not used after the first year.

So, you’re planning to buy a piece of home exercise equipment… and you have promised yourself that this time you are really going to use it!

Maybe you already have a collection of different exercise devices… but you are convinced that with this new contraption you will definitely reach your fitness goals.

Or you keep saying to yourself… “If I only had that fitness machine I would be motivated to work out”.

Around 80% of home exercise equipment buyers said the same thing… and the equipment they bought is gathering dust in the corner somewhere along with their dreams of muscle tone, more energy, weight control and feeling great.

Don’t part with your hard earned money before you make sure you will be one of the 20% that buys home exercise equipment and actually uses it, because as we all know… you are only going to get the physical benefits from the home exercise equipment you buy if you actually do the exercise.

Who Buys Home Exercise Equipment And Then Doesn’t Use It?

According to Consumer’s Union, it is the beginner, or inexperienced, exercisers that are most likely to purchase home exercise equipment and then not use it.

As a matter of fact… beginner exercisers don’t use 2/3 of the home exercise equipment they buy.

Although buying home exercise equipment seems like the logical first step to improved fitness… it is the beginners that give up using the equipment more than people who already enjoy an active lifestyle.

Let’s see why this happens…

Using Home Exercise Equipment Is An Exercise In Self Control

Most people over estimate their self control.

Even though they exhibit determination and enthusiasm when researching the home exercise equipment to buy, seeking out the best price, purchasing and installing the equipment in their home… most people just don’t have enough self control to use the equipment in the necessary manner to reap the rewards.

Thinking about exercise, talking about exercise, researching exercise and purchasing home exercise equipment is not exercise.

There is no home exercise equipment that will completely transform you and help you reach all your fitness goals without an investment of time and energy.

As a matter of fact… the costs of seeking fitness are immediate, while the benefits are delayed.

Most beginners get frustrated putting in the time and energy necessary to reap the long term physical rewards using the home exercise equipment .

As a result, 2/3 of the home exercise equipment finds its way into garages, closets and basements with the closing comments… “That thing didn’t work.”

Prove Yourself Worthy Before Buying Home Exercise Equipment

Most beginners buy home exercise equipment because they took a good hard look in the mirror and didn’t like what they saw… or they assessed their physical abilities and found them lacking.

Next step… buy a piece of home exercise equipment!

Well, hold on there… not so fast.

As I’m fond of saying… Fitness is a journey, not a destination.

The bodily changes and improvement of physical abilities you seek can only be obtained for the long term by incorporating consistent physical activity into your lifestyle.

Prove yourself worthy of the purchase of home exercise equipment by first adding physical activity to your lifestyle by using the effective, versatile and efficient piece of home exercise equipment that you already have… your own body!

If you are really serious about improving muscle tone and energy levels while controlling weight and feeling great… start by performing a workout program of bodyweight calisthenics exercises.

Bodyweight calisthenics exercise is the perfect method to use for the beginner, as well as experienced, fitness enthusiast when starting a physical fitness training program… and should remain part of a well balanced fitness training regime.

As a matter of fact… you should not start using home exercise equipment of any kind until you first have developed the ability to control the movement of your own body.

Once you have effectively added physical activity into your lifestyle… you can buy that piece of home exercise equipment to augment, vary and diversify your physical training with the confidence that you will actually use it.

In conclusion…

Bodyweight calisthenics exercise is the perfect place to start your physical fitness training program.

Properly done… bodyweight calisthenics exercise will develop a strong, lean and athletic body that actually performs as good as it looks.

Once physical training has become a habit… buy home exercise equipment to improve your already effective training.

The body and physical abilities you seek are not determined by the equipment you have at your disposal… but rather by your desire to improve and incorporate physical activity into your lifestyle!

Save yourself a lot of time and money by proving to yourself that you are not overestimating your self control… because if you fail to successfully add bodyweight calisthenics exercise into your lifestyle, you will most likely fail to use the home exercise equipment you buy.

So what are you waiting for?

Use your own body as your gym… and get started on your own personal fitness journey today!

You can go for an extended fitness program and lift heavy weights and run kilometers without stopping for a break but you may still not find yourself any closer to your goals. There may be nothing wrong with your fitness program. Your problem might have something to do with your diet. How is diet related to fitness and what is the right kind of diet for a fitness buff?

Right Diet

Aside from your fitness routine, you should also eat the right kinds of food. The proper diet will not only support your fitness program but will also keep you out of common health dangers like dehydration and fatigue as you pursue a rigorous fitness training program. A good fitness coach should be able to properly instruct you about the right diet.

Conditions

It is wrong to assume that the same diet will work for everyone on a fitness program. You may have special health conditions that also require a special diet for you. In this case, you should consult a diet and fitness expert to determine the right fitness diet for you.

Your diet will also depend on your fitness goal. Some people, for example, are comfortable being just generally fit. Fitness in this context may mean that you can be fit by being physically active without being thin and muscular. There are however, some people whose fitness goal is to be more muscular. In this case, one would need to eat foods with more protein than carbohydrates. A protein-rich diet combined with a thorough aerobics and muscle fitness regimen will give you the muscled look.

Food to Eat

It is wrong to assume that fitness buffs who are out to lose a lot of pounds should not eat bread and pasta. On the contrary, these kinds of food are primary sources of carbohydrates which people on a fitness program need as a source of energy to burn. People who are on a fitness program are generally much like active kids. Cut your carbohydrate intake and you will most likely lack the energy to complete your fitness regimen. It is important however to choose carbohydrate foods that are whole grained over white bread and pasta. You should therefore eat whole wheat bread and cereals.

Aside from carbohydrate rich foods, you should also stock up on food containing protein like fresh fish and lean meat as part of your fitness plan. Protein can help repair and strengthen your muscles. Drink lots of water too and hydrate your body with fruits and vegetables which are also good sources of water, vitamins and minerals.

Foods to Avoid

Even if you were not in a fitness program, you should avoid processed meat like canned beef and fish and smoked meat. These may contain preservatives and may not necessarily be made from the best lean meat parts. You should also try to avoid pork meat and meat skin since these are great sources of fat. While on fitness training, you should keep away from sugary beverages to prevent dehydration.
